A Meaningful Moment with Lionel

What every woman should know about combining ingredients and skin care. We sat down with Radical chemist Lionel Debenetti.

It is true that some combinations of ingredients must be avoid for safety and / or efficacy reasons .

Vitamin C is a fragile ingredient , and easily oxidized and therefore deactivated. Copper is able to oxidize the vitamin , and , it is true must not be used in the same time .

Alpha hydroxyacids (glycolic , malic , lactic ) or beta hydroxyacids ( salicylic ) are acid.....this is an obviousness.... and must not be combined with other acid ingredients like vitamin C  or retinol , because of the risk of skin irritation due to a too low pH;

Products containing sugars must be avoided .....because glycation  ( combination of sugar with collagen ) is one of the problem against which a good antiaging  treatment must fight.

Exfoliation must be avoided before sun exposure , because it will weaken one of the natural protection of the skin: the stratum corneum , which absorbs apart of the aggressive UV rays.

These simple advices could help to maximize the result of the products.
